Key Highlights
- Power generation market volume refers to the total electrical energy (TWh) generated within a country over the course of each calendar year. Market value is calculated by multiplying the amount of electricity produced by the wholesale price for electricity generation.
- By sources, the market is segmented into nuclear, conventional (thermal generation from fossil fuels), and renewable (hydropower, wind, solar PV, biomass, and geothermal).
- All market data and forecasts are based on nominal prices, and all currency conversions used in the creation of this report have been calculated using yearly annual average exchange rates. The USD values may show a declining trend for a few countries, such as Argentina, Turkey, Nigeria, Egypt, and Russia. This is primarily because of the impact of exchange rates considered.
- The global power generation industry recorded revenues of $1,890.9 billion in 2024, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.2% between 2019 and 2024.
- Industry production volume increased with a CAGR of 3.3% between 2019 and 2024, reaching a total of 2,67,72,626.1 GWh (gigawatt-hours) in 2024.
- Asia-Pacific dominated the global power generation industry, commanding the largest share of 64.9% in 2024.
