October 2023

IAPMO Group Indonesia and SPIA Product Conformity announced their collaboration to provide the only testing and certification service to Indonesian manufacturers of ceramic tiles seeking entry into the Philippines market. The organisations received approvals for the same from the Department of Trade and Industry, Bureau of Philippine Standards. The testing and certification which began in 2023, is being done according to the standard PNS ISO 13006:2019 Department of Trade and Industry Memorandum Circular 21-12 and Department Administrative Order 20-09.

January 2022

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) issued Memorandum Circular 22-01 before the implementation of regulations regarding mandatory certification of ceramic tiles. The circular addressed concerns of manufacturers and importers on the proper disposition of existing ceramic tiles inventories that were already released and distributed in the Philippine market before the regulation's implementation. According to the circular, for locally manufactured products, manufacturers could receive the Philippine Standard (PS), whereas importers could apply for Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) for the ceramic tiles that were distributed to distributors and retailers.

July 2021

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched a testing laboratory for ceramic tiles to certify them for safety and quality according to the latest standards. The facility was launched through a partnership between the Philippine Iron and Steel Inc. and Ceramic Manufacturers Association Inc. in the province of Cavite. It is known to be equipped with all the technical capabilities mandatory to test products under the relevant product certification schemes.
